The complications of FSGS
1. Infections
FSGS was determined by renal biopsy in the absence of secondary causes. Demographic, laboratory, and outcome data were collected in a standardized fashion. Six patients (50%) were infected with HCV. Patients with HCV infection and FSGS were primarily Black (67%), hypertensive (100%), had a history of intravenous drug abuse (83%), and had normal liver enzymes.
2. Acute renal failure
Focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (FSGS) is not a single disease, but a pattern of kidney damage. It is one of the most common causes of acute renal failure, especially in children and adolescents as the body loses high amounts of protein into the urine, over time, progressive scarring of the kidneys can lead to kidney failure.
3. Hypertension
High blood pressure, or hypertension, is also a very common finding. The hypertension in people with FSGS can often be very difficult to treat.
